One thing that I love about spring is refreshing our fairy garden! Over spring break we made a fairy garden and DIY fairies out by the kids play area that they absolutely love to tend to. There is just something so magical about creating a little garden wonderland for you and the kids and I love that they can learn to help take care of it.
When creating the garden we couldn’t find any fairies that we liked so I decided to make my own! They ended up being super fun and so easy to make and the kids helped me decorate them. This project is fun for mom and kids, a craft we could all do together.
First I started out by sketching some little fairy friends. This was the hardest part and I wanted to make it easy for everyone so you can just download the fairy sketches HERE and print then you are ready to cut them out and decorate.
Giving these little Fairies some personality was so fun. I chose to use watercolors to give them some color but you could use color pencils, crayons or whatever you would like. Kids would absolutely love to do this part and help out as well.
After painting them it was time to embellish! I used some little florals and leaves from the craft store and some I had left over from other projects. You could pretty much use whatever you wanted for this like moss, twigs, beads etc. or just color them and you are good to go. I cut the wings off some of them and added larger floral petals for wings and used some petals for the dresses. Another fun way to decorate your fairy would be to take the kids out in nature and have them gather items to decorate them. You don’t need a lot because the fairies are so small, you can use whatever you have on hand.
Next we planted the garden with the kids. It is still early spring so we chose spring flowers to add to the planter. To create hight and variation we used taller plants in the back and shorter in the front. We also purchased a fairy house, swing and mushrooms from Michaels craft store and voila!!! A fairy garden masterpiece.
This was seriously so much fun and the kids love it! We hope you do too!
